Ep 75 – Ever Wondered – My Latest Single Out Today!

There are few things that light me up more than releasing new music. And today I finally get to show you my latest single ‘Ever Wondered’. Like all my songs, they seem to land in my lap. One minute there is nothing, and the next there is a full song. I clearly remember when I first sung this and started fully sobbing! There was something about it which just hit me in the heart. I love that! That’s why I do it. When Melissa first heard the finished track she was really taken aback by my voice because she had never heard me let it all out like this before. I would love to hear what you think by tagging me on your social media @iamnickbroadhurst

Welcome back to the show, I’m your host Nick Broadhurst, and today is one of those magical days where I finally get to release another song. And you’ll find that I’m starting to release songs very close together because on June 29 I have my debut album called Thank You coming out, which is super, super exciting. It’s three years in the making and I cannot wait to release it.

But today we get to listen to a song called “Ever Wondered,” and I wanted to give you a bit of background on this song because it’s quite different. It’s really… I guess, you know, it has a different tone to my music. There’s no beat to it. It’s just really vocal with synth. Really stripped back, very simple, but I love it because it was a real opportunity for my voice just to shine through. And, like all my songs, I don’t know where they come from, and this one I can clearly remember when I was sitting at my piano.

And I found this synth sound, and I started playing some notes, and I found this chord, and out of nowhere, the words came to me, “Have you ever wondered.” And from there, within a very short period, maybe half an hour, I had this whole song laid out. And it never ceases to amaze me, this creative process of… I don’t know, it’s like a gift. Just something comes through you, whether you’re writing a book, painting something, whatever it is that you do.

But for me, it’s music. And in this moment, something channeled, downloaded, and there was this song, “Ever Wondered.” And most of my songs have been about love. A lot of them about my wife, Melissa. But this one’s got much more of a global tone to it.

And, “Have you ever wondered just what’s going on? The world falls all around us in a blaze of firing guns. Did you ever think of kids dancing in the dust? A world they never knew of, the secret life of us.” I have no idea where these lyrics came from. I guess it was just inspired by the general feeling and tone of the melody and the synth combined.

But when I first sung this chorus, “Have you ever wondered?” I was belting it at the top of my lungs, and all of a sudden, I just started sobbing. Like, these tears just started pouring out of me, and I kept writing and I kept writing and I kept pushing through and I kept having more and more tears, and I thought, “This is it! This is the music I want to write.” You know, I want other people to have this feeling, this experience that I get when the song comes to me.

So I’m about to play the full song, “Ever Wondered.” But I would love it if you can take a second to just make sure you’re in the space to really hear it. To really feel it. To sink into it. Because we only get one chance to hear a song for the first time. And I would love, right now, if you could join me and be fully present and listen to my latest single, “Ever Wondered.”

So what did you think? I was just listening back to it again, and it just gives me goosebumps and there’s something about that chorus. I can remember sitting in the studio singing this and really just letting it all out, and it felt so good to sing with a different type of power. Because the lyrics are very different to my other songs, so it invokes a different feeling and a different performance.

So I would love it if you could share that on your social media today, send it to a friend, head into Spotify and add it to one of your playlists. This is so important in the early days of any single is that people add it to their playlists and they play it. And you can also hear it on Apple Music, iTunes, Google Play, you can head to YouTube; wherever you go, you can hear this song, “Ever Wondered.”

So to check out the full song again, to watch the music video, head to broadhurst.world/everwondered. The music video is really beautiful. It was shot by a cinematographer and director called Ben Mac, and he shot this from all over the world. Different faces, really intimate portraits of beautiful culture and… just, it’s such a juicy music video because there’s so much richness and so much depth in these faces.

So please do head into YouTube, check out the music video, and I’m so excited to share this with you today, and, as I said, please do share this with as many people as possible. I’m so excited, thank you so much for being here today. And, remember to look up. See the beauty within you. See the beauty around you. Be loved today. Listen to your intuition. And, as always, I love you heaps. Ciao!

Hi Nick, amazing sound, very deep, very emotional! I have been listening to your podcast the last days and I have learned so much, thanks!!! Really amazing work. I especially loved your longevity series. I am a nutrition scientist Zurich based and I recently came across the work of Elizabeth Blackburn, on telomeres. There is now also a book by her, called the Telomere effect. A lot of the longevity observings in the bluezones can be scientifically based now. She has won the Nobel prize! I am sure Melissa would love it too, so do check it out! Keep up the good work. P.S. I started the 21 day negativity detox yesterday. Super excited ;) love you and your work, love how you and Melissa are an example for me, reading her book openwide at!
